Although little known in Romania, orthognatic surgery is practiced in our country at European standards. Dr. Ion Nicolescu, one of the most experienced surgeons in the field, brought this specialization and its benefits to the audience’s attention, customizing on the women segment.
Orthognatic surgery corrects the developmental disorders (excessive or insufficient) of the maxillary bones and it’s applied in combination with orthodontic treatment. Although it is primarily a functional surgery, its primary objective being getting a correct bite, there are also significant aesthetic benefits, with great impact on social life. Studies have shown that people who are happier with their appearance are more successful in their professional life.

Brasov, May 16 to 18, 2014
Dr. Ion Nicolescu spoke about the treatment of the class III Angle anomaly. This condition is a challenge for orthodontists, given the less predictable prognosis. The doctor stressed once again the need for an interdisciplinary approach, the associated orthognatic surgical treatment being the only solution that would ensure a success for the patient.
A correct aesthetic, functional and stable result depends on drafting an appropriate treatment plan which would link the multifactorial etiology and the therapeutic “evidence based”possibilities. The patient’s development stage, correlated with the moment of the introduction of the orthodontic treatment is an important factor in choosing the therapeutic solution.
